REACTIVITY SPECIAL

Online course for dog training enthusiasts struggling with dog reactivity.

Living with a reactive dog can feel overwhelming — and you’re not alone. Chances are, you’ve tried countless training methods hoping to ease your dog’s anxiety, worries, or reactivity around other dogs — yet those moments of calm still feel just out of reach.

Most traditional reactivity training unknowingly teaches dogs to stick close and focus on their handler. That might work in some moments, but what happens when your dog must act confidently and independently amid distractions?

So yes, you may have seen progress — your dog stays calm when right next to you. But let’s be honest: you wouldn’t dare give your dog more freedom - even on a long leash - when another dog approaches, because the barking and lunging could still take over.

And in real life, when your guiding hand isn’t there, your dog’s reactivity spikes, regardless of all the practice. This is the gap that most training misses — but it doesn’t have to be this way.

Introducing:
The Movement Puzzles™ Method!

What are Movement Puzzles™?

Movement Puzzles are engaging pattern movement exercises where your dog moves independently between two bowls — without any handler cues!

This “two bowl game” puts your dog’s choice front and center, always allowing them to say, “No, this is too much right now.” That makes it an ideal, gentle tool for behavioral work — especially reactivity training — where understanding how your dog feels matters most.

These body-awareness and coordination exercises calm the nervous system, balance brain chemistry, and boost emotional self-regulation. That means your dog will be mentally grounded, happy, and eager — primed to create NEW POSITIVE ASSOCIATIONS during your reactivity sessions!

Plus, by requiring controlled movement, these fun puzzles build your dog’s impulse control and ability to make smart decisions on the move — even when they’re farther from you.

Hello, dynamic impulse control and making good decisions also while MOVING near other dogs!

Emma Jäger - reactivity expert & the creator of this course

I have always loved positive reinforcement training—but something was missing!

Since 2014, I’ve helped hundreds of reactive dogs—from fearful rescues to top sport competitors—using force-free, positive reinforcement training that helps dogs feel safe and owners feel hopeful.

But let’s be real: reactivity training often feels like too much—too many steps, too slow, and too hard to stick with.

Even as a professional trainer, I found that traditional setups often made it hard to get the kind of high-quality, precise repetitions dogs need to truly understand a concept.

Sure, we could get many rewardable moments in a session—but they were scattered across different contexts, often too variable to create real clarity. And because of that, progress could be slow, setups were prone to breakdowns, and going over threshold was always a risk.

I kept thinking: If this requires so much planning and precision from me, how can I expect my students to succeed on their own, without feeling overwhelmed or discouraged?

So I started experimenting with something new: movement loops, puzzle patterns, and breaking big challenges into small, easy steps.

And that’s when everything finally shifted.

"The Movement Puzzles™ Method Changed Everything"
Emma Jäger, reactivity expert

After trying most positive reinforcement reactivity protocols, I can say the Movement Puzzles Method delivers faster, more consistent results than any other approach I've used.

 Clean Reps = Fast Learning
One 10-minute session gives more learning than three weeks of more traditional reactivity training setups.

You Don't Need to be Lightning Fast!
For this method to work, you don't need to be super fast or mark the exact right moment. You can finally feel ahead of the game because your dog learns to self-regulate, not rely on split-second cues.

Your Dog Learns the Concept—Not Just the Setup
Once your dog learns “how to move around a trigger,” they don’t need to be fed every time. They just do it. Anywhere. Without props.

It’s Built for the Real World
Dogs don’t live their lives sitting still, waiting for a cue. They move. And now, your dog can stay fully in control of their emotions and making good choices. While moving and without your cues!

It Keeps YOU in the Game
You’ll know exactly what to do and when—and that clarity builds confidence. This training feels simple, motivating, and even addictive. When it’s this fun, you stay consistent—and that’s what gets real results.

Team Jason and Addie - Addie has made huge progress since joining the Reactivity Special program and her reactivity is now many times better!

✨ This Method Has Become the Missing Piece That Makes It All Click ✨

When you break reactivity into bite-sized movement concepts, give the dog control, and make learning joyfulchange doesn’t just happen. It sticks. And it happens faster than you ever thought possible.

Zazu (on the left) with her new canine friend Willow. When they first met, Zazu was reactive towards Willow, but The Movement Puzzles Method changed that and just 3 months later, Zazu now has her first friend outside of the household!

Here’s exactly how The Movement Puzzles™ Method will transform your reactivity training:

With The Movement Puzzles Method dogs have lots of good repetitions in a session. While also being free to look around and process the information. Like Mr Bo looks at the white dog while doing his puzzle!

Shelly from Pooch Partners and Suka (the Husky) practicing walking calmly near a human with a dog, using just the 2 bowl game with no other equipment!

1. Movement Puzzles create a safe, structured space where your dog learns to move independently from you — practicing real-time decision-making that matters.

2. Because every Movement Puzzle is based on your dog’s choice, there’s zero pressure to perform perfectly or keep going when they’re uncomfortable. This means no risk of pushing your dog past their limits and turning training into stress.

3. Movement Puzzles naturally guide your dog to move both toward and away from triggers — and you control this simply by changing your setup angle. You can even add “appearing/disappearing” triggers by choosing the right puzzle for each session, making progress both flexible and effective.

4. They give your dog — and you — something meaningful to do. Especially for working dogs who otherwise might get bored and make their own trouble. Best of all, during these puzzles your dog is free to look around and process, all while enjoying a soothing, familiar pattern. Suddenly, reactivity training isn’t a chore — it’s FUN!

5. And here’s the best part: The Movement Puzzles Method won’t have you lugging gear forever. While equipment is needed at the start to teach good decision-making, soon you’ll see your dog stay noticeably CALMER and more RELAXED around other dogs — even without the puzzles!

Mari Valgma

The creator of Movement Puzzles™

"This is the most FUN and addictive reactivity training ever!"

I’ve tried different reactivity training classes before. We were always successful with the instructor right there… but as soon as I was supposed to start training on my own, it felt too much and too difficult to set up.

Plus it always seemed to help only with certain situations… and not where we actually needed it. Like when running off leash and another dog suddenly appearing in an otherwise empty forest.

It felt a lot easier to just avoid all the situations where my dog might react. At the same time feeling guilty because the training felt like a chore and something that’s never fun, but I should still do it for my dog.

It all changed when we started doing Movement Puzzles during reactivity training with Emma. Suddenly we had a really clear and fun activity to do! Emma’s thoughtful setups and step-by-step plans imitate situations that we actually encounter during our activities.

In short, 10 minute training sessions we had lots of really nice repetitions where my dog very quickly and very clearly learnt to CHOOSE not to react!

And the best part? The training quickly started showing results on our forest walks! Now, when my dog sees another dog suddenly appearing, he doesn’t lunge or growl. He looks calmly and then goes on with his own business. Even off leash.

The reactivity training no longer feels like a chore. It’s actually really fun and we both look forward to our training sessions, excited to see what new setup ideas Emma has come up with!

Sounds awesome, right?!

Here's what you will find inside:

Module 1: Foundation Skills for Calm

Build a rock-solid, reliable communication system and a calming foundation you can trust anywhere—even in the most distracting environments.

In this module, discover our proven method and secret weapon to promote calm, gently redirect reactivity, and empower your dog’s emotional regulation. This isn't just management—it's teaching your dog to consciously choose to stay level headed in a world full of stimulation.

Many students see a remarkable drop in reactivity just after this first module!

Whether your dog struggles with reactivity or just gets overstimulated and scattered in exciting environments, this foundation creates lasting, inside-out transformation for a calmer, more confident dog and owner.

By the end of Module 1, you and your dog will be able to:

✅ Quickly and gently interrupt escalating reactions

✅ Navigate tight spaces and create distance from triggers with smooth leash handling and calm confidence

✅ Calm your dog's nervous system through predictable, low-pressure routines that bring clarity and peace, not confusion

✅ Understand exactly why these tools work and read your dog’s emotional shifts like a pro

✅ Observe your dog naturally losing interest in easier triggers—without you having to hover or micromanage.

Module 2: Management Skills for Real Life

Build easy-to-follow calm routines and stop reactive behaviors before they even have a chance to start.

In this module, we zoom in on your dog’s everyday world—the place where reactive patterns often take root and grow. You’ll get simple yet powerful tools designed to reduce overwhelm, create predictability, and help your dog feel safer and calmer—right from the very first day.

This module is your "from chaos to calm" toolkit, designed to give you confidence, control, and peace of mind while helping your dog feel truly at ease in their world.

By the end of Module 2, you will:

✅ Experience more calmness at home and on walks, as your dog learns to make better choices and keep a “cool head” around everyday triggers - like neighbor noises, kids playing, or moving pets - in your living area

✅ Confidently break repetitive reaction cycles with smart leash and barrier management—even when you’re inside your own home

✅ Bring your new, top-notch skills into real-world settings, walks or outings to reduce stress and help your dog safely process triggers

✅ Feel the immediate relief as your dog scans less, settles more easily, and reacts far less—just by applying smart management techniques

Modules 3 & 4: From Puzzle Prep to Real-Life Wins

Build unshakable calm, confidence, and control—then put it all into action with your first real trigger setups.

These 2 modules guide you through the most exciting and transformative stage of the course: combining everything you’ve learned to confidently handle real-life reactivity triggers—with a clear plan, engaging puzzle, and a calm, focused dog by your side.

Team Nancy and Maze practicing parallel walking near another dog.

Team Mari and Bo (in the front) practicing with a "disappearing" and "re-appearing" dog.

By the end of these modules, you will:

✅ Master the art of combining training skills and patterns for maximum clarity and calming effect exactly when your dog needs it most.

✅ Have a crystal-clear structure and safety plan to train confidently with real-life trigger setups—and apply it to any reactivity situation you and your dog face.

✅ Learn how to adjust and troubleshoot in real-time—building reliable skills you can trust in daily life.

✅ Have unwavering confidence in your own skills—you’ll know exactly how to navigate reactivity with strategy instead of stress.

But most importantly:

✅ You’ll witness a significant decrease in your dog’s overall reactivity, see your dog become more focused and optimistic in previously stressful situations—and feel proud of the incredible progress you’ve made!

Who is this course for?

🙋‍♀ Dog guardians who want a clear, structured, and kind approach to dog reactivity

🙋🏼‍♂️ People who are looking for training that feels doable, effective, and emotionally safe—for both them and their dog

‍🙋🏽‍♂️ Handlers who’ve tried other methods to solve dog reactivity, but feel like something’s still missing and are stuck in their progress

🙋Handlers and trainers working with:
🐾 reactive dogs and would like to use Movement Puzzles in their training
🐾 dogs who participate in sport activities that may require working and even running in the presence of other dogs and still stay clear headed
🐾 dogs that are not expressively reactive (anymore), but still mindful about the presence of other dogs
🐾 high energy working dogs that struggle with reactivity training without structure

Note: this course is not designed for solving resource guarding, reactivity to other triggers and environmental sensitivity. You can adjust the principles to those common challenges and find success with this program, but this is a dog-reactivity specific course first and foremost.

❌ This course is NOT A GOOD FIT FOR:
- blind dogs as the exercises rely heavily on eye-body coordination
- someone not interested in dog's choice based training or believes that dogs just need more exposure to triggers and should adapt to the human's current lifestyle without thoughtful, temporary changes
- someone who finds any use of props or prepping setups inconvenient or unnecessary

What you will need for the training:

Needed from the start:

  • 1 smaller cardboard box

Needed later for best success:

  • 2 bowls
  • 3 cones/plyons/flower pots/buckets or similar
  • 2 cavaletti poles/broomsticks or similar
  • 2 big cardboard boxes (bigger than your dog)
  • Indoor training area of 2x2m (7x7ft) with a non-slip floor cover like a yoga mat or a rug.
  • Access to at least one human helper and a known and neutral dog helper (not necessary on the first weeks of the course).

Optional for more puzzles:

  • Platform/big paw target
  • Chair or kitchen stool

Which student story is your favorite?

Meet Karyn and Sorcha, our long term Movement Puzzles Academy students.

Sorcha is a “pandemic-border collie-puppy” who missed out on early socialization opportunities and developed anxiety and reactivity towards different daily life triggers. Sorcha has very big feelings about other dogs!

Karyn is over 70 and in spite of all their challenges, Sorcha keeps her happy and active. They dream of going hiking together, but idea of encountering other dogs on the trail makes Karyn uncomfortable.

So, Karyn joined the Reactivity Special program the first time we offered it and dove into the exercises straight away with her usual diligence.

Very quickly she started noticing small wins. Like being able to train outside with birds, geese and even a squirrel present.

However, the biggest surprise came when Karyn and Sorcha had been training with Emma for about 2 months.   Karyn had booked a session with a trainer at a local club to work on Sorcha's reactivity.

And here's the thing: Sorcha didn't react! He never barked or reacted to the trainer's dog!

Karyn was able to redirect and calm him down with ease in a matter of seconds in tricky situations where Sorcha didn't feel comfortable. The trainer said that she did not see the dog that Karyn told her about when they first talked.

And a week later when they met again, Karyn wrote that they walked their dogs side by side and she didn’t need to redirect Sorcha at all anymore and that Sorcha was able to the Movement Puzzle exercises in the presence of another dog without even glancing at him!

Here's what Karyn wrote that really melted Emma's heart: "I'm feeling more relaxed and confident. I'm less hesitant about taking Sorcha places where we might encounter another dog. I know now that we can better handle these situations."

This means that Karyn is getting close to her dream of taking Sorcha to the hikes! I can’t believe this is happening for Karyn and Sorcha after just 2 months of training and so little trigger-work! What an inspiring team!

Meet Jason and Addie.

Addie is a 2 yr 4 months old Husky Pit mix with a bit of bull terrier and Shepherd rescue, who was left on the side of the road as a puppy with her siblings. Jason had done a lot of good work with Addie before joining the course and it showed.

"When I met Addie through Jason’s videos, I saw a team that had a very special bond between them. But I also saw a dog that could refuse food quite easily, especially in the presence of the trigger and I saw a tendency to freeze up or lose spark when there was even a slightest difficulty or a small mechanical error on handler part. Luckily Jason is just the right person for Addie! – He is very precise with following the instructions and has the patience to take it one step at a time. Smart training!" - Emma

Jason kept up with his consistent and precise work with Addie and by the end of the first training Challenge he wrote:

…And by the start of the second Training Challenge his dog-walker was also able to see the change!

And this is where Jason and Addie are now, just 2 months after joining the Reactivity Special course!

Working with Nancy and Maze has been such a privilege. From the very beginning, it was clear that Nancy is not only an experienced and thoughtful trainer, but also deeply attuned to Maze’s needs. Maze arrived with a mix of reactivity and overenthusiastic greetings—behaviors that can be tricky to navigate, especially in the fast-paced world of agility and public settings. But Nancy met each challenge with patience, care, and a well-stocked toolkit of training strategies.

Throughout the program, we watched Maze begin to shift—gaining confidence, choosing to stay in the game even when dogs were nearby, and showing beautiful focus in increasingly challenging environments. Their progress in trial-like setups has been especially exciting to see. Nancy’s careful planning and steady guidance have helped Maze feel secure and successful in situations that once triggered barking or lunging. Their teamwork has grown beautifully.

This pair’s journey is a testament to what can happen when thoughtful training meets genuine partnership. Nancy has worked incredibly hard to give Maze the skills and confidence she needs to enjoy the world more fully—and it’s paying off. Whether it’s competing in agility or enjoying peaceful hikes past other dogs, I have no doubt they’re well on their way.

Keep an eye on this team—they’re just getting started, and the future is bright. 🌟

Susy joined the reactivity course with her adolescent cavoodle named Zazu. Zazu has been very reactive towards other dogs and had only one doggie-friend, Taysha, who is living in the same family.

Here is an example of Zazu’s reactivity in the beginning of this course:

Here’s what Susy wrote already after the first foundation exercises:

Here’s her take at the end of the second challenge:

But their biggest breakthrough happened in the third challenge, because Zazu made her first FRIEND outside of her family!!! It happened by accident at the end of a perfect training session, where the dogs were practicing moving straight at each other – which is a really HARD exercise for any dog and Zazu was a total superstar in those! At the end of that session Willow happened to come suddenly for a visit with Zazu. And Zazu kept calm and showed some friendly social signals instead of reacting! Here’s how Susy described it:

Now they are able to go for walks together with Willow and her owner and here’s Susy’s comment just 3 months of joining the reactivity course:

Watching Susy and Zazu’s transformation over these challenges has been nothing short of remarkable. From a reactive pup who could barely tolerate another dog nearby, to joyfully walking and playing side-by-side with her new friend Willow—it’s a testament to patience, consistency, and deep dedication.

Susy’s and Zazu’s story is a reminder that progress might not always be easy, but it is always possible—with love, perseverance, and a willingness to keep showing up. I’m beyond proud to have been part of their journey, and I can’t wait to see what beautiful new milestones lie ahead for this amazing pair ❤️.

Just look at Zazu and her new friend Willow having fun together!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You won't need Movement Puzzles for the first months of the course. So you can start and get the first results with no previous knowledge of Movement Puzzle training.

We have included Movement Puzzles Academy LITE with a tailored support for Reactivity students in this program at no extra cost for you. So when the time comes, you will learn how to do Movement Puzzles and we'll also guide you through the most important elements to pay attention to when using puzzles for reactivity training.

While we can't guarantee that you won’t come across elements you’ve seen before—after all, we’re still working with core learning principles like counter-conditioning, desensitization, and operant strategies—this course was specifically designed to fill in the gaps that we, and many others, have experienced in other programs.

Rather than relying solely on familiar reactivity setups, this course uses two key methods that shape everything we teach: the Box Method and Movement Puzzles. Especially the Movement Puzzle framework is something we haven’t seen used like this in reactivity training anywhere else.

🔸 Traditional Reactivity Training
This approach typically involves gradually exposing the dog to their triggers and working on their emotional response over time. While it can be effective, it often requires a lot of repetition and careful session planning. Progress may be slow, and sessions can sometimes cause stress or frustration for both the dog and the handler. The focus is usually on achieving calmness and attention to the handler or environment—but those skills don’t always carry over well into more active, real-life scenarios where your dog needs to stay focused while moving.

🔹 Movement Puzzles Reactivity Training
This approach builds resilience and focus through structured movement patterns that are both engaging and goal-oriented. Instead of just managing the dog’s emotions, we teach them what to do in a way that channels their energy and builds real-world skills. It’s often faster, less stressful, and more fun—for both the dog and the human. The clarity and rhythm of the puzzles help the dog stay under threshold, build dynamic impulse control, and generalize skills more effectively.

Movement Puzzles Academy (the regular puzzles course):
- Focuses on building physical confidence and body control.
- Includes various fun confidence building challenges like going through noisy curtains, navigating tilting surfaces, and moving through tight spaces.
- Aims to boost optimism, confidence, and body awareness in dogs.
- Exercises done usually without distractions and in an easy and calm environment like your living room

Reactivity Special course:
- Uses the simplest forms of Movement Puzzles.
- Combines Movement Puzzles with other positive reinforcement reactivity training approaches for maximum benefits and fast progress
- Specifically designed to introduce and manage reactivity triggers.
- Focuses on gradually helping dogs build tolerance and focus around specific triggers.
- Designed to progressively introduce more and more difficult trigger setups to help your dog feel more comfortable in a big variety of situations.

You won’t need a helper at all for the first 8 weeks—we’ll focus on real-life setups and build strong foundations first.

Later in the course, you’ll need access to a helper with a dog about 4–8 times total. But don’t worry: your helper doesn’t need to be a pro or have a perfectly behaved dog. Their role is simple—mostly staying in one spot or walking between targets for a few minutes.

Many students have done this with a neighbor’s friendly lapdog, or even teamed up with a friend who also has a reactive dog. With clear step-by-step instructions, it’s easier than you think—and might even turn into a fun routine you both enjoy.

This is a dog-reactivity specific course first and foremost, and all the examples are designed with dog-reactivity in mind. However, you CAN adjust the principles taught in this course to reactivity to other triggers and find success with this program.

You can use these same setups taught in the class for human reactivity, also if your dog is too excitable when seeing other dogs (not fear based reactivity). Using it with triggering sounds or scents may become tricky and require major adjustments to work.

This class may not be the best fit for dogs with very low food motivation.

It's not uncommon for anxious dogs to lose interest in food around triggers—but with the right setups and work under threshold (like in this course!), food drive often returns and even improves. That said, if your dog consistently refuses food even in calm settings, this may signal a deeper issue that training alone can’t solve.

You’re still welcome to join, but please know: we’ll need to focus first on gently building food motivation before progressing to the core exercises. That may take extra time, and results can’t be guaranteed.

If you follow the program, fill in the baseline evaluation form, do the exercises, ask for coaching and can't make any progress in your reactivity training within 30 days of purchasing, simply send us a 7 minute video on our email support@themovingcanine.com showing you and your dog (both visible in the video) practicing the Foundations exercises - to show us that the methodology isn't working for you and your dog.
If you and your dog are still not progressing with your training after direct, personal coaching from Emma Jäger, you'll get DOUBLE your money back.
However, Movement Puzzles Academy: Reactivity Special is only for people committed to actually doing the work, which is why we ask  for a video of you doing the exercises.
We don't offer refunds for impulse purchases or reasons like "I just don't have the time right now". We also don't issue refunds after 30 days from purchase have passed.
If you like to purchase programs, check out a couple of videos and ask for a refund, this isn't for you.
We'll do whatever it takes to make you and your dog successful with this course, but nothing will work for you if you don't actually do the work.

If you have any questions about Movement Puzzles Academy: Reactivity Special and if it's a good fit for you and your dog, please send us an email to support@themovingcanine.com prior to purchasing, so we can help you make an informed decision.
